Vojta (“voy-ta”) therapy is popular in Europe as a rehabilitation treatment to stimulate and rehabilitate the deep muscle systems of the spine and extremities.
Originally developed by Czech pediatric neurologist Vaclav Vojta to treat cerebral palsy, but has since been developed to include a wide variety of conditions. Vojta involves a system of analysis for babies and toddlers up to 18 months of age allowing you to gauge key body developments (rolling, crawling, walking) in your child. This important analysis is rarely if ever performed at your pediatrician’s office.
Vojta is different from more popular treatment programs (bobath, Feldenkrais, surgical options, etc.) because it follows the natural physiological principles of human movement development. The analysis combines postural reactions, spontaneous motor development, and normal reflexes to guide treatment in a step-wise fashion for lasting functional changes.
