Allergies
What are Allergies?
Many allergic and asthmatic reactions are caused by hypersensitivity of the immune system and/or respiratory system.
What Causes Allergies?
Allergies form from an immune system response to a foreign substance. The immune system creates antibodies against certain substances, and the body then reacts negatively when in contact with these body designated allergy substances.
Some of the most common causes of allergies include; airborne allergens (such as pollen, dust, animal dander, etc.), food (such as nuts, wheat, eggs, milk, etc.), a number of medications, among many others. Allergens different from person to person and the response the body has can differ dramatically as well.
How Can We Help?
Allergies are often treated with chiropractic care. Researchers have found that the immune and respiratory systems depend on normal communication from the brain and spinal cord to control and coordinate their functions properly.
Therefore, if your neck is misaligned, it could cause an imbalance in your nervous system function. This upper cervical spinal joint irritation could possibly produce or exaggerate asthmatic and allergic symptoms. The good news is that we can perform an upper cervical examination to determine if chiropractic care can reduce your allergic and asthmatic reactions.
Tips for Allergy Management
Avoiding your known triggers is important to help avoid a negative immune response to a specific allergen. If you are unsure of a specific cause of an allergic response, tracking and keeping a diary of what causes reactions can help identify certain triggers.
Each specific allergen can have many more specifics ideas on how to avoid the allergen or the immune response. Discussing more can help you better manage your symptoms.
